CEC: Moldova ready for local elections on 17 May

CEC: Everything is ready for local elections on May 17

Local elections and referendums will be held on Sunday in 12 Moldovan localities. 40 polling stations will be opened for them. For this reason, almost 70,000 ballot papers have been printed.

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the most polling stations will be opened in Orhei municipality – 15 in total, six polling stations will be opened in Taraclia town, and four polling stations each will be opened in Costeşti village, Ialoveni district, and Copceac village, ATU Gagauzia.

The elections are scheduled for different reasons. In Copceac village, ATU Gagauzia, the local council was disbanded because it had not held meetings for six months, in several localities mayors became deputies, etc.

The cost of ballots amounted to 42,685.86 lei

According to the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), the cost of the circulation form is 42,685.86 lei, with costs varying depending on the type of ballot paper. The price of the form for mayoral elections amounted to 0.51 lei, 1.08 lei for local councils and 1.44 lei for referendums.

The CEC also reported that 69,821 ballot papers were printed for the new local elections and local referendums scheduled for Sunday, May 17, 2026.

The ballots were prepared in four languages, Romanian, Russian, Bulgarian and Gagauz, depending on the type of voting and the localities where the elections are held.

The CEC reports that the number of voters in the localities where new local elections and local referendums will be held on May 17, 2026 is 69,804.
