According to OilCapital, the gas tanker Al-Raqayat was attacked by a UAV or a missile off the coast of Oman as it was exiting the Strait of Hormuz. The vessel came under fire on the morning of July 7. The Al-Raqayat was sailing with a cargo from the Qatari port of Ras Laffan without its transponder activated.
Qatar, one of the world’s leading exporters of liquefied natural gas, is making serious efforts to resume fuel shipments following the end of the most intense phase of the U.S.-Iran standoff. The attack on the gas tanker could significantly disrupt this process.
Moreover, the attack on the Qatari gas tanker has already frightened other vessels that intended to cross the strait. At least one other Qatari gas tanker, the Al-Arish, did not dare to cross the Strait of Hormuz and turned back, the publication notes.
