Food imports are restricted

Specifically, this concerns 39 food items. The list includes flour, meat and meat products, dairy products, eggs, vegetables, sugar, beverages, and a number of other everyday consumer goods. The Ministry of Agriculture emphasizes that this does not constitute a complete ban on the purchase of foreign products. If Kazakhstani producers do not participate in the bidding process or if the tender is deemed invalid, state organizations will be able to purchase imported goods, according to Inbusiness.kz

It is expected that guaranteed demand from the government will allow companies to increase production volumes and invest more actively in development. However, it remains to be seen whether domestic companies will be able to fully meet the needs of government agencies for all items on the “exemption list.”
