
“Americans have a better understanding of economics and the cost-benefit ratio. If the agreement remains merely on paper, energy supplies from the Middle East will also cease,” Mohber wrote on the social media platform X.
According to him, the Iranian side intends to seek full fulfillment of obligations and respect for the country’s rights within the framework of the negotiation process.
The statement was made on the eve of a meeting between U.S. and Iranian representatives in Switzerland. The U.S. delegation is expected to include U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance, Special Presidential Envoy Steve Whitcoff, and Jared Kushner. The Iranian delegation includes Parliament Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, and representatives from the Supreme National Security Council, the Central Bank, the oil sector, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Mediators from Pakistan and Qatar are also expected to participate in the technical consultations.
The talks, originally scheduled for June 19, were postponed following a series of Israeli strikes on Lebanon, the Financial Times and CNN reported, citing diplomatic sources. According to the Financial Times, Tehran demanded guarantees that hostilities in Lebanon would cease in accordance with a previously agreed-upon document. One of the publication’s sources characterized Iran’s position with the phrase: “No Lebanon—no deal.”
The day before, the parties agreed on a temporary peace plan providing for an immediate and definitive ceasefire, including on the Lebanese front. U.S. President Donald Trump stated that he expects a ceasefire “on all fronts, including Lebanon, Hezbollah, and Israel.”
The ceasefire between the Lebanese group Hezbollah and Israel took effect on June 19.
Amid the escalation around Lebanon, Tehran announced on June 20 that it was closing the Strait of Hormuz to shipping, warning of possible further steps should the aggression continue. Later, the Pentagon stated that the strait remains open and that at least 55 ships have already passed through it.
