The award’s shortlist includes 29 marketing directors from Europe’s and the world’s largest brands, including Ferrari, LVMH, Coca-Cola, L’Oréal, Philips, MINI, Nivea, Revolut, and Gymshark.
The organizers describe the award as the first pan-European initiative aimed at recognizing executives who successfully manage marketing across multiple markets.
According to Euronews, unlike most professional awards, the winner will not be selected by a panel of experts. Industry representatives themselves were given a say: more than 800 marketing executives from 15 European countries participated in the CMO Barometer survey, nominating colleagues they consider to be models of leadership in the industry.
The results were analyzed using digital tools and further verified by experts from the University of St. Gallen, which served as the project’s academic partner.
To be eligible for the award, candidates had to have held the position of chief marketing officer for at least two years and be responsible for marketing strategy in at least four European markets.
The award was established by the Serviceplan Group in collaboration with Samsung Ads, The Trade Desk, and the University of St. Gallen, with support from a number of industry partners, including Euronews, LinkedIn, and the European Direct Marketing Association (FEDMA).
The name of the first-ever recipient of the European CMO of the Year title will be announced at a gala evening in Cannes on the opening day of the Cannes Lions festival—one of the world’s largest events in the fields of advertising, marketing, and the creative industries.
