A preliminary feasibility study for the 400-kV Strășeni–Gutinash overhead power line was presented today. The document was handed over to Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu by Nick Pietrovich, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of the United States of America in Moldova.

“The strategic partnership with the United States is yielding concrete results for Moldova’s energy security. The feasibility study for the Liberty Line project represents an important step toward establishing a new energy connection with the European Union and strengthening the resilience of our power system,” said Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu.

The line will be built with grant funding from the U.S. government, which has allocated $130 million, and will become the third high-voltage power transmission line between the Republic of Moldova and the European power grid via Romania, following the Vulcănești–Chișinău and Bălți–Suceava projects. The project will help strengthen energy security, increase electricity import and export capacity, and accelerate the Republic of Moldova’s integration into the European energy market.

According to the study presented, the 400 kV Strășeni–Gutinăș power line will have an estimated length of about 70 km within the Republic of Moldova and will pass through 25 settlements in the districts of Strășeni, Nisporeni, Călărași, and Hîncești. The project will help increase power transmission capacity between Moldova and the ENTSO-E area, improve the reliability of supply, and foster the development of a competitive energy market.
