The National Anti-Corruption Center is investigating a 40-million-lei infrastructure project

On the morning of June 10, officials from the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA) conducted searches at several locations in the Ialoveni and Telenesti districts. Investigators are conducting a criminal investigation into a case involving the director of a construction company, technical managers, construction site managers, and two representatives of the local administration, who are suspected of abuse of office in connection with an infrastructure project in the Ialoveni district.

The investigation concerns a construction contract worth approximately 40 million lei for the construction of a wastewater collection and treatment system in a town in the Ialoveni district.

According to CNA, investigators have established that between 2013 and 2024, the head of the contracting company allegedly failed to execute the project in accordance with the technical documentation, construction standards, and deadlines stipulated in the contract. Authorities suspect that the company intentionally deviated from the terms of the contract and the approved project design. As a result, the wastewater collection and treatment system was not put into operation, despite the fact that the local administration paid for the work under the contract.

To determine the causes of the delays and assess the status of the project, local authorities requested a technical assessment from the State Enterprise “State Service for Project and Construction Inspection and Expertise.” The expert report identified numerous deficiencies and serious violations of building codes. The experts determined that a significant portion of the work did not comply with the approved project and concluded that additional demolition and reconstruction work was necessary to ensure the effective use of public funds. The cost of the corrective work was estimated at more than 2 million lei.

Investigators are conducting searches and other procedural actions to gather evidence, establish all the circumstances of the case, and identify all persons involved.
