The forum was attended by representatives of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, Romania, Lithuania, and Latvia, as well as international partners and experts in this field.

Minister of Internal Affairs Daniela Misail-Nikitin, who attended the event, emphasized that border security today means much more than simply controlling the border. It is about the ability of institutions to prevent risks, cooperate, and protect citizens in an increasingly complex security environment.

“We need to develop border capabilities more actively. And this is not just about human resources. It involves the use of modern technologies, rapid data exchange, interoperable systems, closer cooperation with European institutions, and more effective use of passenger information to mitigate risks. It is also important to improve operational communications. Security depends on a balance between technology and well-trained specialists,” said Daniela Misail-Nikitin.

Focus on Eastern Europe

During three panel discussions, participants discussed the security situation in Eastern Europe, the optimal use of security resources, and continuous training for border services.

The program also included tactical exercises, followed by a visit to the Ungheni Border Police Sector, where participants were able to see firsthand how border security measures are implemented.

The forum provided a platform for dialogue and the exchange of experiences among institutions, experts, and international partners, demonstrating once again that security is built on trust, cooperation, and shared responsibility. At the heart of all these efforts lies the citizen and their need to live in a safe and stable environment.

The Republic of Moldova is ready to actively contribute to strengthening regional security and enhancing its role as a responsible partner on Europe’s eastern border, according to a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

This means improving people’s safety, enhancing the country’s stability, and taking concrete steps toward the Republic of Moldova’s European future.
