Ukraine introduces European fuel labeling

From July 1, new fuel designations will appear at gas stations in Ukraine - E5, E10 and B7, which will indicate the content of biocomponents in gasoline and diesel. The innovation applies only to the system of fuel labeling in accordance with EU standards. The familiar gasoline grades A-95 and A-92 will not disappear, their labeling will not change.

The deputy director of the Psycheya scientific and technical center, Hennadiy Ryabtsev, said this in a commentary for the Ukrainian mass media. The changes are aimed “at a gradual transition to more environmentally friendly transportation and reducing dependence on fossil fuels”.

What will the new labeling mean?

The following designations will be used for gasoline: E5 – gasoline with bioethanol content up to 5%, E10 – gasoline with bioethanol content up to 10%. For diesel fuel, labeling B7 – diesel with up to 7% biodiesel will be used. That is, in the labeling, the number after the letter indicates the maximum share of biocomponents in the fuel composition.

In the countries of the European Union such a labeling system has been used for several years already. Its main goal is to make information on fuel composition understandable for drivers and to promote the use of renewable energy sources.
