He said this on the air of one of the domestic TV channels.

“VAT on cars should be introduced,” the minister said. – And not only because it is right for all goods to be subject to VAT on import, but also because this is the practice of the European Union.”

Earlier there were questions about the administration of the tax. There were fears that to reduce VAT on imports of used cars may reduce their value.

But this problem, according to the Minister, government agencies are ready to solve. As for the abolition of excise taxes, the minister clarified that for now the authorities intend to keep them, reducing the size.

“It would be easier to leave only VAT and to refuse excises,” Andrian Havrilice explained. – But this will stimulate the import of old cars with internal combustion engine to the detriment of the import of electric cars. Therefore, both VAT and excise tax will be applied to gasoline and diesel cars, while only VAT will be applied to electric cars. This will be fair.”

The authorities promise to release the draft tax policy for 2027 by June 15.
