The Appeals Chamber overturned the court’s decision to declare Dmitri Constantinov wanted

The Court of Appeal of South Gagauzia has canceled the decision of the Comrat Court to declare the former chairman of the People's Assembly of Gagauzia, Dimitri Constantinov, wanted. Earlier, the Comrat Court sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment.

Constantinov’s defense pointed out that it was premature to declare the politician wanted because he did not have the status of a convicted person – the verdict could still be appealed and had not entered into legal force.

The judges of the Appellate Chamber of the South agreed with the arguments of Constantinov’s lawyer and canceled the decision of the court of first instance. The decision is not subject to appeal.

The publication notes that the whereabouts of Dmitry Konstantinov is still unknown. The police assume that he may be in Transnistria.
