Production is organized at the site in Nizhny Novgorod, where previously produced cars Volkswagen and Skoda. After the withdrawal of Western car companies, the enterprise was reoriented to the production of cars under the Volga brand.
Russian automotive publications and industry experts have previously noted that the new Volga models are actually adapted versions of cars from the Chinese concern Geely. In particular, the C50 sedan is compared to the Geely Preface, the K40 to the Geely Atlas, and the K50 to the Geely Monjaro.
The relaunch of Volga comes against the backdrop of a major transformation of the Russian car market after 2022. The departure of European, Japanese and American manufacturers has led to a surge in the presence of Chinese brands and attempts to revive Soviet automobile brands using Chinese platforms and technologies.
