
The Chinese official emphasized that his country has one of the most extensive e-commerce networks in the world, proposing this decision as a concrete step to facilitate trade exchanges. Moreover, Zhang Zhu officially invited a Moldovan delegation of representatives of the agricultural and wine sectors to participate in the 47th World Congress of Vine and Wine, due in October 2026 in the Chinese city of Ningxia.
Mihai Popşoi praised the high quality of the Moldovan agro-food products and expressed interest in enhancing their access to the Chinese market. He referred to the promotion of technical procedures and the need to finalize the approval of phytosanitary protocols needed to export new categories of Moldovan goods, such as fruits, vegetable oils, bee honey, cereals and nuts. A special emphasis was made on the wine sector, given that Moldova exports wines to about 70 states, and China is already the main Asian market for Moldovan wines. In order to consolidate these positions, Mihai Popşoi requested the support of the Chinese authorities and suggested considering the possibility of reducing customs duties on the import of Moldovan wines to China.
Launching new initiatives
Also within the visit, Mihai Popşoi had a meeting with the chairman of the China International Development and Cooperation Agency (CIDCA), Chen Xiaodong. Popşoi presented Moldova’s priorities in the context of the European integration process. At the same time, he emphasized the interest in expanding cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, agriculture, energy efficiency and healthcare.
During the meeting, the officials exchanged notes on the launch of feasibility studies for a string of new initiatives. They concern projects in the field of renewable energy and electricity storage, as well as equipping specialized services with technical equipment (special vehicles and compressed air breathing apparatuses) and medical devices. According to the signed document, the Chinese side will conduct a technical assessment by a team of experts, and based on the findings of the feasibility study, options for financing and implementing these projects will be considered.
Digitalization of cultural heritage
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister met with Chinese Minister of Culture and Tourism Sun Yeli. The parties considered possibilities of cooperation in the field of digitalization of cultural heritage, including exchange of expert experience between specialists and borrowing of Chinese practices of protection and restoration of historical monuments and museum collections.
Deputy Prime Minister emphasized Moldova’s potential as an authentic tourist destination for the Chinese public, based on traditions, gastronomy, wine culture, heritage and rural tourism. The officials exchanged opinions on the interaction with Chinese tour operators and tourism platforms, as well as on the organization of events to promote Moldova. In this context, Minister Mihai Popşoi expressed Moldova’s interest in considering the possibility of including Moldova in the list of destinations approved for Chinese citizens traveling abroad. This initiative will support the development of the national tourism sector and the intensification of inter-human contacts between the two countries. In this context, the officials agreed that the specialized agencies of the two states will jointly work out tourist routes.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister Mihai Popşoi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi discussed the possibility of launching a direct flight between the two states.
