Ilon Musk caused market swings with a short “Yes!” on social media

Social network X (formerly Twitter) once again became the epicenter of market fluctuations on May 4, 2026. The occasion was an ultra-laconic post by the platform's owner Ilon Musk.

The one-word response of “Yes!” – under the post about bitcoin reaching $72,000 and forecasts of its further growth to $150,000 by mid-summer provoked a new round of discussions in the crypto community and among Tesla investors.

It seems that the market should have long ago gotten used to such laconic, but “explosive” tweets of the richest man on the planet. But investors literally catch every word of Musk and instantly react with their money. The billionaire traditionally uses such confirmations to legitimize bold market forecasts, which often serves as a signal for algorithmic traders and retail investors.

Tweet valued at $34million

Musk’s publication came amid active trading on prediction markets (such as Polymarket), where betting volumes on the number of the billionaire’s tweets and the price of bitcoin today exceeded $34 million. Crypto-enthusiasts, as usual, took Musk’s tweet as a “green light” to reach new highs. In prediction markets, the probability of BTC holding above $72,000 today jumped to a high.

For their part, skeptics and lawyers in the comments below the post reminded of Musk’s ongoing litigation, including recent disputes with OpenAI attorneys, where his public statements are scrutinized for “social utility” and market impact.

That said, some users are also noting the possible technological context of Ilon Musk’s response. Many link this “Yes!” not only to finances, but also to the expected late April/early May “next-level” announcement of the Tesla Roadster, which Musk promised to make “bombastic.” Experts have long pointed out that any Musk post is not just a reaction to a specific event, but a tool for attention management. “In the 2026 environment, with AI algorithms instantly reading his tone, such posts are replacing multi-page press releases,” Bloomberg analysts said.

Among users’ reactions is this: should we now expect a similarly short “No” from him if the markets go down?
