National Forum of Labor Market and Social Dialogue

This is the second edition of the event organized by the Independent Analytical Centre “Expert-Grup” and the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection of Moldova in partnership with the Soros Foundation in Moldova. The panelists include representatives of the National Confederation of Trade Unions, the National Confederation of Employers and the Employment Agency.

Opening the forum, Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu noted that the main problems of the Moldovan labor market are its low productivity and inefficiency due to structural problems of the economy.

“Our specialists are educated in Moldova and settle down quite well in Europe. Why is it impossible for us?” the prime minister questioned and advised the participants to consider the crisis moments on the Moldovan labor market not only as challenges, but also as opportunities.

Lack of social infrastructure

“In our discussions with the diaspora, the lack of social infrastructure – schools, kindergartens, hospitals and polyclinics – is always mentioned. And this is also a factor that restrains the development of the labor market,” he stressed. – Now Moldova has a chance to improve the situation in this field in the process of accession to the EU”.

Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Eugen Osmokescu and State Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Research Ludmila Stichy participated in the conference. They outlined the current situation on the labor market and the estimated shortage of workers, the attraction of foreign workers and the regulation of the state order for the training of specialists, among others.

Eugen Osmokescu said that Moldova is doing a good job with the digitalization of the economy, and now the ministry is moving towards the implementation of artificial intelligence, which provides new solutions.

Ludmila Stichy emphasized that at the moment, the market is more in demand for workers with secondary vocational education, while the demand for university graduates is weaker, which is why she emphasized the development of vocational education.

More detailed information about the problems discussed at the forum will be presented later.
