The Moldovan government has taken another important step towards the implementation of the digital wallet: a draft law on electronic identification and trust services has been elaborated.
Among the benefits for ordinary citizens is a free electronic signature. Banks, insurance companies, telecom operators and utility providers will be obliged to accept identification via digital wallet as an alternative method. At the same time, the law guarantees a high level of privacy.
The transition to the digital format will remain voluntary. Those who prefer traditional methods will still be able to use physical ID cards and paper certificates – the state is obliged to preserve alternative channels of access to services.
The digital wallet will be fully compatible with European standards, enabling Moldovans to remotely open accounts in EU banks, sign contracts or use public services in any EU country.
The full launch of the system is planned to be completed by December 2026.
As we have already written Logos Press, the first step towards the creation of a national digital wallet was the official launch of the integrated state portal EVO on January 22 this year. The site evo.gov.md became a single digital “window” for interaction with the state with citizens, entrepreneurs and the diaspora.
