Moldova extradited a Russian citizen at the request of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office

At the request of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, the competent authorities of the Republic of Moldova extradited Russian citizen Yusup Sayd-Aliev for criminal prosecution under part 2 of article 208 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the territory of a foreign state in an armed formation, not provided for by the legislation of this state, for purposes contrary to the interests of the Russian Federation), part 2 of article 205.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (participation in the activities of an organization, which in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation is recognized as a terrorist organization).

This reports General Prosecutor’s Office of Russia.

“According to the investigation, Sayd-Aliev from January 2014 to March 2015 took part in hostilities on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic as part of an illegal armed formation. After that, he joined the terrorist organization “Islamic State” banned in our country, as part of which he continued his criminal actions,” – stated in the message.

The accused hid from law enforcement agencies, on behalf of the Russian Prosecutor General’s Office he was put on an international wanted list.

“The request for extradition was sent in connection with the report on the detention of Sayd-Aliev on the territory of Moldova. Thanks to close cooperation with foreign colleagues, it was possible to achieve a positive decision on the extradition of the accused,” the GP press release notes.

The Moldovan law-enforcement bodies have not yet commented on this information.
