The Committee on Foreign Policy approved advisory opinions on the signing of these documents, the press service of the country’s Parliament reports.

The European Convention for the Protection of Animals in International Transport establishes legal obligations for member states to ensure the welfare of animals during international transport (road, rail, sea or air). Provisions include standards for temperature, ventilation, water and feed, as well as ensuring adequate space in vehicles. The original instrument was signed in 2003 by most European States.

The European Convention for the Protection of Animals kept on Farms sets common minimum standards for the protection of animals kept for agricultural purposes (including the production of food, wool, hides and fur). It provides for the provision of adequate rearing, care and welfare conditions irrespective of the exploitation system used, with the aim of preventing unnecessary suffering and harmonizing national legislation with European standards in this field.

The document was opened for signature in Strasbourg in 1976. The main European States, including all European Union member states, are now parties to the convention.
