Istanbul airport has become the busiest in Europe

Istanbul Airport has become the busiest airport in Europe, according to the European Aviation Report published by the European Aviation Safety Authority (EUROCONTROL) for the period from January 26 to February 1, Logos Press reported.

An average of 1,447 flights per day were operated here during this period, Anadolu wrote.

Istanbul Airport is followed by London Heathrow Airport with 1,235 flights, Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport with 1,167 flights and Amsterdam Airport with 1,151 flights per day.

Istanbul’s other international airport, Sabiha Gokcen, ranked eighth in Europe with 746 flights per day.

It should be noted that according to 2025 data, Istanbul Airport has become one of the busiest and most strategic aviation centers in the world with 549,316 flights and 84,406,050 passengers.

And Sabiha Gokcen Airport, according to the “Airport Traffic Report 2025” from ACI Europe, was the leader in passenger traffic growth among major airports in Europe, serving more than 40 million passengers. Passenger traffic increased by 16.7% to 48.41 million, which, according to the Airport Authority (HEAŞ), confirms Sabiha Gokcen’s status as a rising star in European aviation.
