Who has the most medals in the history of the Winter Olympics

The leader in the total number of awards in the history of the Winter Olympics is Germany, which has won 435 medals, Logos Press reported, citing RBC.

Germans have participated in the Winter Olympics 16 out of 24 times. The medals won by the United German Team (UGT), which included athletes from the FRG, GDR and West Berlin at the 1956, 1960 and 1964 Games, were also counted.

Second place goes to Norway with a total of 405 medals. The country has participated in all 24 Winter Olympics.

The teams of the USSR and Russia are in third place: they took part in the Winter Games 17 times, winning a combined 386 medals. The results of the Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) and ROC (Russian Olympic Committee) teams, under which Russian athletes competed in 2018 and 2022, were also taken into account in the calculation.

The U.S. ranks fourth with a total of 330 medals in 24 Winter Olympics.

Germany leads the overall standings in terms of gold medals at the Winter Olympics with 163 awards. Norway is in second place with 148 gold medals. The third place is occupied by Russia and the USSR with a total of 140 gold medals.
