Such a provision is contained in the regulation approved at the government meeting on February 4. It approves the methodology for identifying ponds and reservoirs to be liquidated. The provisions of the methodology will be mandatory for Apele Moldovei, responsible for this process.
These include the procedure of preliminary examination and selection of ponds and reservoirs that pose a risk of negative environmental impact, identification criteria, the liquidation procedure itself, as well as measures for the restoration and improvement of land on the site of former reservoirs.
According to the document, the liquidation of a pond/reservoir will be understood as actions on dismantling of technical structures, complete or partial demolition of the dam, bowl and fish protection structures, recycling of equipment and waste.
The procedure of identification of dangerous ponds and reservoirs will be initiated on its own initiative and carried out by Apele Moldovei at least once every 5 years, as well as at the request of owners of hydraulic structures and/or water fund lands together with local self-government bodies.
The methodology stipulates that liquidation will be carried out voluntarily by owners of water bodies. And also compulsorily by local self-government bodies based on the provisions of the Urban Planning and Construction Code and the Regulation on the Procedure for Demolition of Unauthorized Structures and Cutting of Trees and Shrubs.
In the period 2018-2019, 6,763 water bodies were identified in Moldova during the inventory conducted.
