Ciuleanu was represented in the competition of athletes aged 56 to 60 years. He became the best among veterans in the weight category up to 94.3 kg. In the final, the 56-year-old Moldovan wrestler defeated the Englishman Peter Daymond Ward. The third step of the podium was shared by Michel Thibault (Belgium) and Slawomir Glatz (Poland).

A year earlier Alexandru Ciuleanu became European champion in the same weight category, but among athletes aged 51 to 55.

The performance in the open weight class brought Ciulianu a silver medal after he failed to defeat Herman Gijsbert van den Berg from the Netherlands in the final. Dariusz Kwiatkowski (Poland) and Rodrigo Versos (Portugal) won bronze medals.

It is noteworthy that Ciuleanu came to jiu-jitsu at the age of 47. Since that time he has repeatedly won the prize of veteran competitions. The fighter represents the club “ZR Team” from Chisinau.

More than 6 thousand fighters take part in the European championship on Brazilian jiu-jitsu. The tournament, which opens a series of “Grand Slam” of four competitions, will last until January 24.
