Water quality is under control

This provides for new amendments to the regulation on systematic monitoring and accounting of surface and groundwater conditions, which the Cabinet of Ministers approved at its meeting on January 14.

At the same time, the regulation on groundwater quality standards was amended, the Environment Ministry said in a press release.

The main goal of these amendments is to guarantee the quality of drinking water for citizens and to better manage water resources, including in the context of climate change.

The new regulations set clear groundwater quality standards that vary depending on the area of use, such as drinking water supply, irrigation, industrial use or environmental protection, allowing for the prevention of pollution and timely response to risks.

The water monitoring system will be improved so that water quality is tested uniformly according to the same modern rules and methods, allowing for better detection and prevention of pollution, early detection of problems and remediation before they affect human health and ecosystems.

Data on water status will become more transparent and will be integrated into the State Water Cadastre, a national system that facilitates decision-making in this area.
