In a statement on this occasion, the Congressman explained that his initiative is aimed at ensuring the strategic national security interests of the United States in the Arctic and countering the growing threats from China and Russia, writes RBC.
“Greenland is not a remote outpost that we cannot ignore – it is a vital national security resource. Whoever controls Greenland controls key Arctic shipping lanes and the security architecture that protects the United States. America cannot leave this future in the hands of regimes that despise our values and seek to undermine our security,” RBC quoted Randy Fine as saying.
His idea is that the Greenland Annexation and Statehood Act authorizes the president to take any action necessary to annex or acquire Greenland as a territory of the United States.
The legislation also requires a full report to Congress outlining the changes in federal law necessary to finally accept Greenland as an official U.S. state.
“For too long, American leadership has stood idly by while our adversaries have undermined our geopolitical dominance. My bill will protect our homeland, secure our economic future, and ensure that America, not China or Russia, makes the rules in the Arctic. This is what American leadership and strength looks like,” the Congressman summarized.
Meanwhile, tensions between the US and EU countries are rising amid Washington’s intentions to take control of Greenland at any cost. U.S. President Donald Trump admitted that the United States may have to choose between the realization of ambitions regarding Greenland and the preservation of NATO. And the European Union is seriously considering deploying additional Alliance troops to Greenland to thwart Trump’s plans to take control of the world’s largest island.
