The relevant privileges have been extended for at least a year. Anna Nicolaescu, Head of the Tariff and Non-Tariff Regulation Department of the Customs Service, presented the details of the mechanism of customs privileges for citizens returning from the diaspora to the country for permanent residence.
The benefits apply to persons who have reached the age of 18, who have lived abroad for at least 36 months during the last five years, have documents confirming their legal stay abroad and return to Moldova for permanent residence.
The importation of personal belongings and household items, as well as one car is allowed without paying customs duties, provided that the property is intended exclusively for personal use and is not of commercial nature.
There are certain requirements for the car: age – not more than 10 years, value – up to 550 thousand lei, engine volume – not more than 3,000 cubic centimeters, good technical condition, as well as the presence of a valid driver’s license of the appropriate category.
In order to obtain exemption from duties, the application and the package of documents must be submitted electronically no later than 30 working days before the importation of the property or car to [email protected]. Importation is possible only after approval of the customs authority.
The Customs Service draws attention to the fact that after importing the property, the recipient is obliged to stay on the territory of the Republic of Moldova at least 183 days per year for three years. During this period, it is prohibited to sell, give or transfer the car to other persons. In case of violation of these conditions, the general rules of import are applied, with the payment of appropriate taxes and duties.
