
The volume of new term deposits in October decreased by 1.5% compared to September, continuing the trend of the third quarter to slow down the positive annual dynamics. Deposits attracted in the national currency (70% of all funds) showed a decrease in volumes by 8.2% over the month, in foreign currency, on the contrary, increased by 18.3% compared to the previous month.
Seasonal foreign currency earnings settled in the foreign currency accounts of enterprises, showing a multiple growth. However, the analysis also shows a slowdown in the growth rate of the total volume of legal persons’ deposits.
In October, the volume of deposits of legal entities amounted to 1,428.0 million lei, increasing by 15.5% as compared to the previous month. At the same time, deposits in national currency amounted to 953.9 million lei (-12.8%), and in foreign currency – 474.1 million lei (+3.3 times). As compared to October 2024, the volume of deposits of legal entities in national currency increased by 15.7%, and in foreign currency – by 2.3 times.
The average nominal rate on newly attracted deposits in the national currency decreased by 0.14 percentage points compared with the previous month and amounted to 4.98%. The average nominal rate on deposits in foreign currency decreased by 0.15 percentage points, amounting to 1.23%.
In the reporting month, deposits of individuals amounted to 3,034.3 million lei, which is 8.2% less than in the previous month. The most demanded deposits were those with terms of 2 to 5 years and 6 to 12 months, which accounted for 50.38% and 28.17% of total deposits of individuals, respectively. Compared to October 2024, deposits of individuals in national currency increased by 59.1%, and in foreign currency – by 7.2%.
