
According to the International Organization of Vine and Wine (OIV), Romania consumed 300 million liters of wine in 2024, with a 1.4% share of total global consumption.
In first place is the United States with an annual volume of 3.33 billion liters. In second place is France (2.3 billion) and in third place is Italy (2.23 billion).
The top ten also includes Germany (1.78 billion), the United Kingdom (1.26 billion), Spain (0.99 billion), Russia (0.81 billion), Argentina (0.77 billion), Portugal (0.56 billion) and China (0.55 billion).
Seven of the ten countries that consume the most wine in the world are European.
The top five countries – the US, France, Italy, Germany and the UK – together consume more than 50% of the world’s wine.
Romania is the main market for wines from the Republic of Moldova. Our country’s share in the neighboring market is 20%. Almost 70 Moldovan wineries operate there.
According to the National Bureau of Vine and Wine (NBVV) of the Republic of Moldova, more than 10 million liters of Moldovan bottled wine were supplied to Romania in 2024.
