This was discussed in Chisinau at the fifth forum of the National Alliance of Compatriots’ Associations on the theme “Migration and Local Development”. “Globalization dictates migration trends, and today Moldova is not only a country from which citizens leave, but also a state that receives migrants,” said Leonid Boaghe, chairman of the Alliance, mayor of the village of Sireti in Straseni district. – At the same time, the problem of outflow of citizens from the republic is still very urgent. In this sense, we tried to find a solution to the challenges facing the country. The role of the Alliance is to help the associations to improve their work not only with the mayoralties, but also with partners in various projects, as well as with the diaspora in order to keep people in Moldova”.
Today the alliance includes about 100 associations of compatriots, and their number has almost doubled in the last year. Members of these organizations implement projects in their localities and create contacts between compatriots at home and abroad, contributing to the modernization of villages and towns.
“Today many associations of compatriots are being established abroad,” continues Leonid Boaghe. – They are engaged in economic diplomacy, participating in events organized by Moldovan embassies, and this is an experience that should be developed. Such contacts can become bridges between Moldova and its citizens abroad. So far, such associations are not part of our alliance, but in time, in order to expand the scope of our activities, we plan to cooperate with them. Today, associations from the alliance implement a number of projects together with GIZ (German Agency for International Development), UNDP (United Nations Development Program), in which we build up such cooperation experience. We are working on the idea of creating contacts and involving associations from the Diaspora to promote Moldovan products abroad. Many of our compatriots have established their businesses and companies abroad and have gained many useful contacts. This should be used”.
