The Moldovan government has given Lukoil an ultimatum

The move follows the Moldovan government’s decision to prevent disruptions in air service, as from November 21 the Russian company will no longer be able to refuel planes due to U.S. sanctions, and after a report that the U.S. Treasury Department did not authorize the sale of assets of Gunvor Grup Ltd.

The divestment decision was made yesterday by the Council for the Review of Investments of National Security Significance, the U.S. Treasury Department told the publication PulsMedia sources close to the process.

The quoted source also said that the minutes of the Investment Review Board meeting were made public on Thursday, November 6, 2025. Although the authorities withheld personal data, the document shows that the divestment deadline has been extended until November 17.

Pulsmedia also reports that a government-affiliated media outlet, which is extremely often used by the ISS for political purposes or for the benefit of certain groups, mentions that it is about Lukoil-Moldova’s assets at the airport. According to them, this information has not been confirmed by the government, and the authorities say they are preparing a press release in which they will provide more detailed information within today.

The information came after Swiss giant Gunvor refused to buy Lukoil’s assets outside Russia under pressure from the US administration.
