One third of the population complains of vision problems

The information about the well-being of citizens collected by statistics was distributed in this order. One third of people interviewed by census takers (29.6%) admitted to problems with eyesight, about 20% complained of difficulties with movement (walking or climbing stairs). Hearing problems bother 11%, memory and concentration problems 10.2%.

Compared to urban dwellers, rural people experience a higher degree of all these problems. And women more often than men experience problems with vision (33.6% vs. 25% of men), mobility (22.5% vs. 16.4% of men). The smallest difference in responses was for problems with hearing (11.7% vs. 10.3%, respectively) and memory (11.2% of women vs. 9.1% of men). Most of the identified health problems belong to the group of people over 60 years of age.

A limited set of questions on the difficulties faced by the population in daily life were included for the first time in the 2024 census. Data were collected in accordance with the recommendations of the Washington Group on Disability Statistics, and in accordance with the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s census recommendations for detecting possible risks.
