Agrarian subsidy fund has grown by 70% in four years

If it were not for the annual reduction of agricultural production and the share of gross agricultural product in GDP, the decline in agro-food exports, the galloping "food inflation", decapitalization and the risk of bankruptcy of a large number of farmers, the results could have been even better, Logos Press reports.

In total, for the period 2021-25, the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development amounted to more than 8 billion lei. The National Fund for Agriculture and Rural Development amounted to more than 8 billion lei. More than 8.2 thousand farmers received financial support from it, including 2.9 thousand young farmers and women – the number of beneficiaries of these categories has significantly increased. In general, “thanks to the Government’s efforts and farmers’ investments, more than 3.2 thousand new jobs were created”.

Since 2022, for the first time in RM, the mechanism of advance subsidies for local development was launched through the LEADER Program. It financed 1,782 projects in the amount of 180 million lei.

Thanks to the active cooperation of MAIA and the government in general with international donors and development partners, the AGGRI Project “Investments in Agricultural Governance, Growth and Sustainability” (budget $55 million) and the Livada Moldovei Project (€22 million) are being implemented in Moldova. Additional assistance to farmers who found themselves in a difficult situation due to weather and other disasters, through the “FAO Emergency Assistance Program in the agrifood sector of RM” assistance with production materials was provided to more than 21.5 thousand rural households. With the assistance of the French Development Agency, investment projects for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems in Criuleni and Falesti districts are being implemented, and three more irrigation systems in Cahul, Stefan-Voda and Briceni are being rehabilitated with World Bank funds. With the assistance of the Japan International Cooperation Agency JICA, the MAME Machinery and Agricultural Equipment Modernization Project is being implemented in the country. Through the ADMA Agency, 8 projects of financial assistance for the purchase by 1.6 thousand farmers of goods for the introduction of modern agro-technologies have been implemented.

The Ministry took an active part in institutional reform. In particular, with its assistance, the National Agency for Land Improvement, the Center for Agricultural Advisors, the National Center for Research and Seed Production, and the National Institute for Applied Research in Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine were established.

There is an opinion that the Ministry of Agriculture itself will be reconfigured as part of the continuation of institutional reform.
