Lending to the economy has revived

With the beginning of autumn, the interest of economic entities in credit resources of banks has intensified, almost doubling the monthly demand of individuals, - reports Logos Press.

Lending to the economy has revived

In September 2025, the volume of newly granted credits increased by almost 12% during the month, amounting to 7, 237 billion lei, with a predominant share of borrowings (72%) in national currency. At the same time, the volume of credits requested by legal entities amounted to 4,661.7 million lei, increasing by 18% as compared to the previous month. Non-financial companies were the main applicants.

The demand of individuals became more moderate in September, showing an increase of tenths of a percent. Individuals received loans amounting to 2,485.4 million lei, and most of them (60.2%) were granted for consumer needs. More than half of the granted funds (1,326.4 million lei) were issued in national currency for the term from 2 to 5 years.

More than a third of the newly granted loans to individuals were nominated as mortgage loans, the average rate for which amounted to 8.21%.

The easing of monetary policy has not yet affected the cost of credit resources, although the regulator notes a shift from the “dead point” towards a decrease by hundredths of a percent.

Thus, the average nominal rate on newly issued loans in national currency decreased by 0.03 p.p. compared to the previous month and amounted to 9.35%, while the average rate on loans in foreign currency decreased by 0.18 p.p., amounting to 5.16%. The average rate on consumer loans in lei decreased by 0.02 p.p. and amounted to 11.07%.

The average rate on loans granted to legal entities in national currency increased by 0.04 p.p. and amounted to 8.75%, while the average rate on loans granted in foreign currency decreased by 0.18 p.p. and amounted to 5.16%.
