This is evidenced by the data of a sociological study conducted by the iData agency, which compared the cost of a trip in one direction in Chisinau or Balti trolleybus and bus (6 lei) with the prices in the top 10 most expensive countries in the world in terms of urban transport tariffs.
The most expensive is Iceland – 88 lei. In second place is Norway – 73.7 lei. In third place is Switzerland – 70.6 lei. Australia completes the top ten, where one ticket costs 49.6 lei.
The Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Finland and Great Britain are also in the top 10. It is not difficult to compare and come to the conclusion that the higher the welfare of citizens in a country, the higher the cost of public transportation.
Although there are exceptions. In cities such as Luxembourg, Tallinn and Valletta, public transportation is free for everyone.
