The corresponding cooperation agreement with the company was signed by the Electronic Government Agency. Within two years, Mastercard promises to modernize electronic payments in government online commerce, using AI to analyze data and introduce incentive programs (cashback, discounts) for card use. They also promise to strengthen cybersecurity, increase trust in payment systems, and make them simple and attractive.

“For decades, Mastercard has partnered with governments around the world. We are honored to start a partnership with Moldova’s e-Government Agency, acting as a trusted ally of the ongoing digital transformation in which the country has already made progress. I am convinced that by joining our efforts we will open new opportunities, increase the use of digital payments and accelerate innovation to create safer and more convenient solutions for consumers,” said Irina Untilă, Country Manager of Mastercard in Moldova.

In 2025, the agency recorded a record number of card payments and payments directed to citizens’ bank accounts: more than 4.5 million card transactions were processed through MPay. More than 35 billion lei passed through the system this year alone, and in total, more than 190 billion lei of electronic payments have been processed through MPay since 2013.
