“Helping hand” extended by the government to farmers

The decision was approved on September 10 by the Emergency Situations Commission (ESC) chaired by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, the MAIA Agriculture and Food Ministry said in a press release.

The money will be distributed among farmers as partial compensation for the fatal damage caused by frosts to sugar beet crops and perennial plantations. Also, part of this amount will be used to compensate for the damage to vineyards caused by the storm in the Cahul region on July 21-22 this year.

“We are coming to the rescue of farmers – the funds will be sent to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Processing Industries to compensate those affected by the weather. The government takes care of its people and the fruits of their labor,” Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.

The regulation on the procedure of providing financial assistance to farmers affected by the consequences of frosts and storms will be elaborated by the MAIA Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry and submitted to the government for approval.

Earlier, the associations of agricultural producers reported at the cabinet meetings, timed to discuss the consequences of spring frosts, that the direct and indirect losses of the fruit-growing sector amounted to at least 700 million lei.
