At the moment, the product is sold through online stores and specialized websites, and advertised in social networks. Fresh green nuts are offered in branded cardboard boxes, paper bags and nets in volumes from one to ten kilograms. Three- and five- to seven-kilogram packages are usually complete with gloves, knives or nut crackers. Prices start at the level (marked as a discount) of 75 lei/kg.
“Product as an idea” is sold under the legend of “a neat and comfortable journey back to childhood”. In the sense that many people in Moldova associate the cleaning and consumption of green-shelled nuts freshly plucked from the tree with childhood memories of trips to the “village to grandmother’s house in the nature”, family gatherings, etc. For people of several generations, it is a kind of gastronomic tradition – like husking fried sunflower or pumpkin seeds, but in an expensive, premium format.
Among the first companies to offer this product on the domestic market is Pomul Regal. By the way, a few years ago, the same company introduced to the Moldovan market young (humidity 20% and more) walnuts in hard shells, but already peeled from the green skin. The product was offered in perforated plastic bags and nets.
As Lilian Florea, the head of the company, noted for Logos Press, the packaged fresh walnuts in green peel is a lengthening of the Pomul Regal product line, not a substitution of another assortment item. In other words, young packaged walnuts in shell will also be available, but in about a month.
Producers claim that they are negotiating the sale of green walnuts in consumer packaging through supermarket chains. Probably, in stores this product will be put in refrigerated counters, as it belongs to the category of perishable and needs special storage conditions.
