Of the total amount allocated, 568 million lei will be sent to city halls from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, and 60.7 million lei will be added by local authorities themselves for the implementation of projects.

As a reminder, the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development announced the launch of the “Europe is Near 2025” road repair program in early April. It was included in the additional funding package for this year under the general name Buget plus. According to the plan, the program should be completed by the end of this year. The authorities plan to build and repair about 130 km of local roads and sidewalks in 100 settlements across the country.

Funding is provided through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development. According to the approved procedure, local authorities submit applications for funding. These must be approved by the National Coordination Council for Regional and Local Development and approved by the government.

A total of 579 applications were submitted to participate in the program. Their cost is approximately 2.6 billion lei, and the second phase of the program is planned to be announced in the fall, said Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolya.

Most of the already approved projects (65) will be implemented in the central region. There are 30 projects in the south, 28 in the north, 8 in the suburbs of Chisinau, and 1 in the Gagauzia Autonomous Territorial Unit.

The amount of funding is linked to the size of the settlements. Fifty-seven settlements with a population of no more than 1,500 people will receive up to 2 million lei. Thirty-three settlements with a population of more than 1,500 people will receive up to 5 million lei. The remaining 42 villages will receive more than 5 million lei. In these villages, the projects will be implemented with co-financing from local authorities. They must provide 10% of the cost of each project.
