In 1/4 finals of the tournament in the weight category up to 43 kg the 14-year-old Moldovan representative defeated Emine Beyza Bariscan (Turkey), in the semifinals she defeated the Russian Nurana Asadli. Irina Terzi’s rivals met in the battle for the bronze medal, where the representative of Russia was stronger. The second bronze medalist was Martina Modna (Ukraine), who lost to Rania Rakhmanova in the semifinals.
A step away from a medal was 16-year-old Cristina Zaporojan, who lost in the small final of the competition in the weight category up to 65 kg to the athlete from Belarus Anastasia Komanava, who performed under a neutral flag. Other Moldovan athletes – 15-year-old Mihaela Bacos (up to 46 kg), 17-year-old Alexandrina Barbanoua (up to 53 kg) and 16-year-old Alexandra Moisei (up to 69 kg) – dropped out of the tournament at earlier stages.
In the team standings, the Moldovan national women’s wrestling team is in fifth place among 30 participating countries. The ranking is headed by the national teams of Ukraine, Turkey, Germany and Hungary.
The European Youth Olympic Wrestling Championships (U-17) in Skopje (North Macedonia) will last until June 15.
