NBS: Consumer Price Index Increased in April

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in April this year, compared to March, there was an increase in average consumer prices by 0.9%, - reports Logos Press.

NBS: Consumer Price Index Increased in April

This is due to the increase in prices for food products by about 2% and services to the population by about 0.9%.

Among food products, the most pronounced price increase was noted for fruits – by 9.3%, vegetables – by 5.3%, vegetable oil – by 3.2%, meat, meat semi-finished products and canned food – by 1.8%. The price of bread, milk and dairy products rose less – by 0.3%.

At the same time, prices for chicken eggs decreased by 5.9%, and sugar prices moved down slightly.

At the same time, average retail prices for non-food products in April decreased by about 0.3%. In this group, fuel prices played a noticeable role, having decreased by 2.3% (including diesel fuel – by 5.8%, gasoline – by 2.4%, coal – by 1.2%).

However, footwear and clothing rose in price by 0.8% and 0.6%, respectively. Prices for construction materials also rose by 0.1%.

In the sphere of services to the population, average prices increased by 0.9%, mainly due to the increase in prices for passenger transport (by 4.75%) and water supply and sewerage services (by 4.5%). And in the sphere of public catering registered an upward movement of prices – by 0.4%.

YTD inflation (average consumer prices in April 2025 compared to December 2024) amounted to 4.6%. Food products went up in price by 5.5%, non-food products – by 0.8% and consumer services – by 8.5%.

Over the last 12 months, average consumer prices in Moldova increased (from April 2024 to April 2025) by 7.8%.
