Vladimir Bolya
This was stated by Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolia, who represented Moldova at the summit of the Three Seas Initiative (I3M), held in Warsaw.
The Three Seas Initiative unites 13 EU member states located between the Baltic, Black and Adriatic Seas. Its main goal is to strengthen regional infrastructure in energy, transport and digitalization in support of European unity and sustainable economic development.
During the plenary session, Vladimir Bolia emphasized Moldova’s accelerated transition from energy vulnerability to sustainability and European engagement, stating that “today Moldova is no longer dependent on Russian gas, invests in efficiency, renewable energy and balancing infrastructure, and strengthens its role as a pillar of energy security on Europe’s eastern flank”.
The Minister presented the main achievements of Moldova within the Initiative: obtaining the status of associated country within the I3M; registering 13 strategic projects for cooperation in energy, transport and digitalization; signing a memorandum on the 400 kV Straseni-Gutinas transmission line; completing a study for a 250 MW cogeneration plant and logistics hubs in Chisinau and Beresti.
At the same time, Vladimir Bola urged the I3M Fund and European partners to financially support 4 important projects aimed at strengthening regional security: the Straseni-Gutinas line, the BESS electricity storage system with a capacity of 75 MW, the Coseuti-Iampoli road and the multimodal logistics terminal at Beresti railway station.
The Summit concluded with the adoption of a joint declaration in which the leaders of the 13 Member States, together with associated partners, including Moldova, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening infrastructure connectivity in Central and Eastern Europe; supporting the reconstruction of Ukraine and its integration into European networks; promoting energy, digital and transport resilience in the region; and strengthening European unity and the transatlantic partnership.
