470 mln lei allocated to help families for Easter

This was announced on 23 April by Parliament Speaker Ihor Grosu at a joint press conference with Labor and Social Protection Minister Oleksiy Buzu. The parliamentary speaker stressed that this money is envisaged in the financial program “Budget PLUS”, which was recently approved by MPs. The assistance to families for Easter is partly financed from the state budget’s own resources and from the 1.9 billion-euro support provided by the European Union to Moldova (with a grant component).

The beneficiaries will be all families with children under five years of age, regardless of their income level, including those from the diaspora. Thus, about 200 thousand families will receive 1.5 thousand lei each.

Families with children with disabilities will receive 5,000 lei each. There are 11463 such families in Moldova. Also, 20,977 families caring for adults with severe disabilities will receive 5,000 lei each.

Alexei Buzu said that the money will be received starting from May 2. Recipients of these lump-sum payments do not need to apply anywhere. They will be made by the government in an initiative form.

“The government together with the National Social Insurance Fund have done their ‘homework’,” the minister said. – We have data on births for the last five years and also on people with disabilities. These families are identified. Most of them receive different types of assistance – pensions or benefits. We know which families should receive these payments. They will be automatically received on social cards or active bank cards, about which there will be an sms-message from the bank. Those who do not have a card will receive the money at the post office. For diaspora families who do not have an active card in Moldova, the payment will be available at the post office until the end of the year. If they cannot travel to their home country during this time, a power of attorney can be issued at the consulate for a family member who will receive the amount. In case of any problems, you can contact the CNAS hotline”.

Alexei Buzu added that in 2021, the government spent 2.1 billion lei on the item “protection of children and family” in the social insurance budget, and in 2025, these expenses will reach almost 4 billion lei, i.e. they will almost double.
