Parcels have been moved online

The provisions of the new Customs Code began to apply on January 1, 2024, but the corresponding electronic module of the Asycuda system was not yet fully ready for operation. Therefore, the Customs Service extended the old procedure of customs clearance on paper several times by internal order. This created certain difficulties for recipients of parcels worth more than 150 euros. The growing popularity of online commerce and the increasing number of parcels were superimposed on the lengthy procedure of physically filling out the declaration, which made the procedure long and nerve-wracking.

Now international postal shipments, which include excisable goods valued up to €150, as well as goods valued between €150 and €1,000 can be cleared electronically. According to the provisions of the new Customs Code, individuals are obliged to declare them in the same manner as legal entities. The new information system saves them from having to visit a customs office. It is possible to fill in a customs declaration with a reduced set of H6 data and pay import duties online by following the instructions on the website https://ecustoms.trade.gov.md/individual-person.

The person completing the declaration is responsible for the accuracy of the data entered. The document can be checked before entering it into the information system. Once the customs officer has verified the information and calculated the import duty, the person will be able to pay it via MPAY. The parcel will then be delivered to the address provided at checkout.

At the same time, the Customs Service has also envisioned the availability of a temporary paper version of customs clearance. It will be valid until September 30 this year in cases when the use of electronic systems will be limited.
