
Iran leads in the number of paid vacation days and public holidays—53 days, which is more than five times the figure for the United States (10 days).
The United States ranks second to last among 185 countries, ahead of only Micronesia.
European countries generally have figures around or above the global average, while a number of major Asian economies lag behind it.
In other words, depending on where you live, statutory paid vacation ranges from nine to 53 days per year.
The Resume.io portal compiled and summarized the statutory annual leave and paid public holidays in 185 countries for the year 2025.
In Romania, there are 33 days of paid leave per year; in Ukraine, 36; in Russia, 42; and in Germany, 29.
The Tofan government intends to address this inequality. Moldova plans to change the calculation of annual paid vacation starting January 1, 2027: 28 calendar days will be replaced by 22 working days.
At the same time, the authorities state that the total time of actual time off and the amount of vacation pay will not decrease, since weekends and holidays will no longer be included in vacation days.
