As part of this process, a contract was signed for the entire volume of natural gas required to meet projected consumption during the heating season (from October 2026 to March 2027), totaling 3,832,693 MWh. The contracted volume is to be delivered during the winter, thereby meeting projected demand during the cold season.
In total, as part of the procurement procedure that began in July, 24 rounds of tenders were held, in which 11 companies from Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Malta, Germany, and Greece. Of these, 23 rounds were successfully completed. To ensure the transparency and fairness of the procurement process, representatives from the Ministry of Energy, the State Property Agency, the Prime Minister’s Office, the Information and Security Service, as well as representatives of civil society were invited and participated in all tenders.
At the same time, the company will make the necessary purchases to fulfill its natural gas storage obligation by November 1, 2026, in accordance with the Decision on the Natural Gas Storage Obligation for the 2026–2027 heating season. The storage obligation amounts to 15% of the total projected volume for the gas year, which for Energocom amounts to approximately 134.5 million m³ of natural gas. Part of this volume has already been secured, and the gas will be stored in neighboring countries that have storage facilities.
Energocom emphasizes that gas contracts are concluded in advance through forward contracts, which ensures the necessary volumes are available for the months of consumption. The final price is not set at the time the contract is signed but is calculated later based on a formula indexed to the TTF Front Month index, published by Argus Media, for the following month of delivery. Thus, the price is determined based on a European benchmark index that is public and verifiable, beyond the influence of the contracting parties.
Consequently, it is currently impossible to predict what the natural gas tariff in Moldova will be during the upcoming cold season.
