The AI for Good Summit, organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with UN agencies and the Swiss government, brought together representatives from governments, technology companies, the scientific community, and international organizations.
Held concurrently with the forum was the first UN Global Dialogue on the Governance of Artificial Intelligence, dedicated to establishing international mechanisms for coordinating AI development.
The UN is concerned about the safe deployment of AI
According to the ITU’s post-conference report, key topics of discussion included the development of uniform technical standards, ensuring the safety of the most powerful AI models, algorithm transparency, and preventing the misuse of AI.
Participants also discussed the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare, industry, education, public administration, and the fight against climate change. However, most of the discussions focused not on the technologies themselves, but on establishing rules for their safe implementation.
Experts note that artificial intelligence is gradually becoming a subject of international policy. Following the adoption of the European AI Act and the intensification of UN efforts, countries are moving toward establishing a global regulatory framework that could shape the industry’s development for years to come.
For businesses, this means a gradual transition from an era of unrestricted AI adoption to a period when companies’ competitiveness will depend not only on the quality of their technologies but also on their compliance with new requirements for security, transparency, and corporate governance.
