This was reported by Ion Ceban, mayor of Chisinau. He clarifies that the relevant document was signed by the Ministryof Education and Research. (This likely refers to so-called “synchronous learning,” as defined by the Education Code — author’s note).

The order, which the mayor calls “absurd,” is to be implemented nationwide, he adds.

This is being done to avoid spending money on teachers’ salaries, the mayor asserts, and he advises government officials and those in power to “cut their own salaries.”

“Yesterday I was at the gymnasiums in Revaca and Sînzher, where teachers are being forced to work according to the new methodology of the Ministry of Education and Research. Parents are the most dissatisfied. For this reason, they want to take their children out of local schools and find them another place to study,” says the mayor. “As long as we can, we will not allow this to happen in Chisinau’s schools. We will not allow Chisinau to cut costs at the expense of children.”
