“There are tenants who act as if the lakes are their property. They pay a pittance in rent, often set 15–20 years ago. That will no longer be the case. Thanks to the new regulation, we now have the necessary tools to update the rent. The rate will be calculated objectively, based on the surface area, depth, and other specific characteristics of each body of water. “In addition, tenants will be required to invest in the improvement of the lakes,” the minister stated.
According to him, the new method for calculating rent is already being applied to the first group of 23 lakes. The lease contracts for these lakes have been revised. As a result, the total amount of lease revenue has increased significantly.
“The results are already visible: revenue has increased from 1.4 million to 5.2 million lei. I urge all mayors to adopt this regulation and revise the lease contracts for water bodies. Water resources must be managed properly and for the benefit of society,” noted Gheorghe Hajder.
