The interim head of the executive branch expressed his gratitude to the members of the European Parliament for their strong support of the Republic of Moldova on its path toward European integration and emphasized that this step opens up concrete prospects for deepening relations with the European Union.
“This decision sends an important political signal to the Republic of Moldova and opens up concrete prospects for deepening relations with the European Union. Moving forward with accession negotiations will help strengthen state institutions, improve security, foster economic development, and raise citizens’ standard of living. Thanks to closer ties with the European Union, the Republic of Moldova gains broader opportunities to attract investment, modernize infrastructure, develop the business environment, create new jobs, and gain broader access to European funding and cooperation programs. “Compliance with European standards helps strengthen the rule of law, combat corruption, and enhance the resilience of state institutions,” stated the acting prime minister.
On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, the European Parliament, at a session in Strasbourg, adopted the annual report on the Republic of Moldova by a significant majority: 505 in favor, 115 against, and 45 abstentions. In the document, which assesses progress toward EU membership, the EU’s legislative body “welcomes the Republic of Moldova’s exemplary commitment, despite ongoing external interference by Russia.”
Interim Prime Minister Eugen Osmocescu was appointed to the post by presidential decree, effective today, July 8, after his predecessor, Alexandru Munteanu, resigned.
