The meeting was attended by State Secretaries Alena Rusnak and Grigore Stratulat, the Swedish Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Petra Larke, and the Head of the European Affairs Department at the Swedish International Development Agency (SEI), Lisa Fridreksson.

State Secretary Grigore Stratulat thanked Sweden for the support it has provided to the Republic of Moldova in the field of environmental protection and expressed an interest in continuing cooperation, particularly in the process of aligning national legislation with European Union requirements. In this context, the possibility of involving Swedish experts in the development of regulations on the handling of chemicals and the creation of an electronic system for their registration was discussed.

At the same time, State Secretary Alena Rusnak emphasised the importance of Moldova’s preparations for identifying areas of significance to local communities, with a view to their inclusion in the European Natura 2000 network, which helps to ensure the protection and conservation of natural habitats and species of wild flora and fauna.

In this context, the possibility of Sweden providing support for the establishment of an institution responsible for managing protected natural areas was discussed.

The parties also discussed new opportunities for cooperation that could contribute to environmental protection and the Republic of Moldova’s European integration.
