Moldovan fruits on the EU market: evolution of supplies

On the eve of the new marketing season, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) recalls the success of Moldovan fruits on the EU market.

“Starting from 2025, the European Union has increased access of Moldovan agricultural products to the Community market. For plums, table grapes, cherries and apples, tariff quotas were increased to allow duty-free exports, while full liberalization was applied to garlic, tomatoes and grape juice,” MAIA recalls in its press release.

According to official data, in 2025, Moldovan apple exports to the European Union amounted to 36.1 thousand tons (compared to 24.8 thousand tons in 2024). Total European shipments of these fruits amounted to $25.5 million (from $16 million in the previous year).

Moldovan cherry exports in 2025 amounted to 3.1 thousand tons (2.1 thousand tons in 2024). Shipments amounted to $12.2 mln ($4.7 mln in the previous year).

In the case of table grapes, exports to the European Union in 2025 amounted to 34.1 thousand tons (33.4 thousand tons in 2024). The amount of supplies was $39.8 million ($46.5 million in the previous year).

Moldovan plum exports to the European Union in 2025 amounted to 46.3 thousand tons (48.2 thousand tons in 2024). The amount of supplies – $41.3 mln ($40.9 mln in the previous year).

Since summer 2022, Moldova has enjoyed a temporary regime of trade liberalization with the European Union on seven agricultural products. This regime expired on July 23, 2025, and subsequently trade was carried out in accordance with the new provisions of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area.

Logos Press Note . In 2025, the following annual quotas were agreed for duty-free fruit shipments from Moldova to the EU: plums – 61,000 tons, apples – 50,000 tons, table grapes – 40,000 tons, cherries – 4.5,000 tons.
